Platform capitalism vs platform cooperativism
Two emerging competiting concepts in the “sharing economy”:
- Platform capitalism - Subcontracting and rental economies with big payouts going to small groups of people. Occupations that cannot be off-shored, the pet walkers or home cleaners, are now subsumed under platform capitalism.
- Platform cooperativism - Apps-based, worker-owned labor brokerages that allow workers to exchange their labor without middleman and address financial instability.
