Once hailed as the poster child of digital interactive learning, tablets are falling increasingly out of favour in NSW schools after being found to be less practical than laptops… The shift away from tablet to laptop e-learning mirrors the experience of a number of US schools. In 2014, the Los Angeles unified education district, the second largest group of schools in the United States, recalled 2100 iPads from students. They opted for Chromebooks and hybrid laptop-tablets instead. Schools in Texas, North Carolina and Florida soon followed suit.

I don’t think this completely writes off tablets as tools and certainly not in a business context - I’m more critical of the one-size fits all assumptions behind the use of iPads in particular in schools.

Some educators still see value in iPads for younger students and their smaller size makes it harder for students to hide behind their devices.
